Galibardy – Chic and Quirky Affordable Jewelry

31 May

I admit that I love playing around on StumbleUpon. As great as BlogLovin is at keeping track of my favorite blogs, Stumbleupon is great because it takes me outside of my “normal” reads.  And outside of my norm is where I usually find great treasures.

This past weekend I stumbled upon (get it?) Galibardy, a small UK online jewelry boutique.  My personal belief is that jewelry is somewhere you can let your personality shine. It’s one place to take a step out of your comfort zone and really make a statement. And that is exactly what the jewelry from Galibardy does.

Scissors, Paper, Rock – $34

Chivalry Ring – $35

Brass Guitar Case Necklace – $33

AK-47 Earrings – $27

I was immediately taken by the quirkiness of the designs. And, for me, the price is just right. Which is your favorite?

Nail Love

21 Apr

You’d be hard pressed to see me with painted fingernails.  Sure I go in for once a month pedis like any good runner should, but I always forgo splurging on my fingers. Until now.

I’d seen Sally Hansen Salon Effects featured on multiple blogs over the past few weeks and with each post I coveted this supposed miracle product more and more. From Houndstooth to Glitter there seemed to be a style for everyone. So yesterday I splurged a little and bought the fishnet-esque design “Misbehaved”.

I. Am. In. Love!

I had no idea beautiful nails could be so easy. Just peel and stick – no polish required. I cannot wait to try the other designs like “Skinny Jeans” and “Frock Star”.

For less than $10 you can try them too. Ulta has them on special Buy 2 Get 1 Free right now (Plus save $5.00 on your order with code 19257). I highly suggest you try them.

What’s your favorite design?

See ya, 2010

1 Jan

Happy New Year! I hope everyone is waking up feeling refreshed, motivated and ready to start a new year.  I know I am.  2010 was a year of change for me.  A new job, new passion and new direction in my career.  I’m counting on 2011 to keep me moving in that same exciting direction.

Another new I celebrated in 2010 was a new camera.  Here are a few of my favorite shots from the last few months of the year.  Enjoy, and I look forward to sharing much more with you in ’11.

In the spirit of new I also started a new Tumblr. It’s a more personal place where I will be sharing inspiration, photos, quotes and links.

Vegan Week Round Up

12 Nov

Howdy all! I hope you had a chance to check out Vegan week on the site and here on the blog last week. It was an eye-opening experience for me (a non-Vegan) to put together. While I do eat animal products, I am a huge animal lover. Some of the ways animals are treated to create “fashion” is heartbreaking to me.  There are so many fantastic fashion options out there that are completely animal-free, so why not take advantage?

I don’t want to get preachy, I just want to help bring awareness. I hope you were able to find the information informative! In case you missed anything, here is a run down:

– Melisser from Cruelty Free Face gave us great ideas for Fall make-up trends

– Melanie from The Streets I Know broke down 5 Vegan companies that rock

Glee star Lea Michelle is Vegan

– Get Bones star Emily Deschanel’s Vegan-friendly style

– Vegan friendly studded heels

Mulberry inspired Vegan satchel

– Animal-free moto jacket

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I’m going to get out to the new H&M store that opened downtown today. Wish me luck!

Guest Post – Cruelty Free Fall Make Up Trends

3 Nov

Guest post is from Melisser over at Cruelty Free Face.  Well seasoned make-up artist whose work has appeared in Vanity Fair, People, GQ, Rolling Stone and on TLC’s “What Not to Wear”. When her love of animals prompted her to go Vegan, her make-up kit soon followed. She now Vlogs about cruelty-free products and offers amazing beauty tips.

Melisser was kind enough to offer up some cruelty-free make-up suggestions for fall.

OCC Lip Tar

OCC Lip Tar in Anime

Many people are unaware that not all makeup is animal friendly. From animal testing to animal based ingredients put in everything from mascara to lipstick, it can be difficult to navigate what’s truly animal cruelty free. Luckily, more and more lines are talking about their policies and listing ingredients to take out some of the guess work. Another option is my site Cruelty Free Face where I let you know not only what isn’t tested on animals, but what doesn’t have nasty animal bits inside it. After all, harming animals is never beautiful!

Bright Lips – While many lipsticks have carmine, a beetle laden pigment in them, you can get bold lips without the bugs. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, or OCC has you covered with their Lip Tars. NSFW is the perfect red, while Anime has you hot pink lovers covered, and those of you ready for trendy purple lips can try Plum. Not only do they have excellent products, but OCC is 100% vegan and cruelty free!

Bold Brows – When you want a defined brow without going overboard, check out the Brow Tech To Go by Smashbox Cosmetics. One side is the perfectly angled soft pencil, while the other side has a clear gel to seal the deal. It’s easy to apply and builds up nicely, if you really want to make a statement.

Eyeliner – Fall is a fabulous time to layer the liner and go bold with your eyes. For a thick cat eye, ELF Waterproof Liner has you covered at only $3! When you want the smudgy grunge look, go for something creamier like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero.

Thank you so much for all of your tips, Melisser!

Don’t forget to grab Melisser’s book The Vegan Girl’s Guide to Life and check out her book tour (including dates in the UK!).
